Back to School 🍎

August 24, 2023

Dear neighbors,

The 2023-24 school year is nearly upon us. This is an exciting time for students, families, educators and everyone who works hard to help our children learn and grow. Let's go!

Here are some helpful tips and reminders:

  • If you haven't already double-checked your child's immunization record, now is a good time. Vaccines are required. Is your student up-to-date? The best place to access immunizations is your primary medical provider. Need a provider or an appointment? Here is information on pediatric and vaccination clinics across the District: https://dchealth.dc.gov/page/schools-and-licensed-childcare-development-centers

  • Is your student starting at a new school? Do you have a plan for commuting? Take your child on a test drive or walk. They'll enjoy it. Also, leave early on day one! Make time for your child to meet new friends or get reacquainted with classmates from last year. Introduce yourself to teachers, staff and other parents. It takes a village!

  • Good attendance is vital to learning, personal growth, and a successful school year. Keep your child on track; make sure they attend school every day and arrive on time.

  • What is your student doing after school? There are many options and a variety of programs available, many of which are free. Consult with school officials and also check out this information guide: https://backtoschool.dc.gov/page/afterschool-out-school-time

Our schools are ready for your student. Let's all work together to make this academic year the best ever. Many achievements and celebrations await!

In service,

Vince
