Decision 2024

December 20, 2023

Dear friends,

It has been one of the great honors of my life to serve District of Columbia residents as Ward 7 Councilmember, Council Chair and Mayor. With determination and by working together, we achieved what we set out to accomplish, overcame great challenges and, most importantly, uplifted people from all walks of life. Throughout it all, you have been the wind in my sails.

Without your support, insight, advocacy and determination, the many improvements we've made would not have been possible. You can take pride in our soon-to-open new hospital, an equitable healthcare network that serves all residents, education reform, universal PreK, Birth-to-Three, more affordable housing opportunities, economic development projects that continue to bear fruit, an environmentally responsible and sustainable DC, and much more.

I will continue to be an advocate for our city and the people who call it home, but the time has come for me to pursue that as a private citizen. Therefore, I will not seek re-election in 2024.

My final year in office will be no different than any other; every day I will put my shoulder to the stone in furtherance of our shared desire to make the District a better place. Much work remains to be done, as does the task of ensuring continued progress on many fronts.

There are no words that can adequately express my gratitude for the support you have given me. Thank you for everything you've done. You made our aspirations attainable.

As we approach the end of the year, I want to wish everyone a joyful holiday season. May love and celebration find you each day.

When the calendar is turned, I will roll up my sleeves and get back to work.

In service,

Vince
