FY25 Budget Update

March 29, 2024

Dear neighbors,

When I returned to the Council in 2017, I brought with me an agenda set by Ward 7 residents that was, and still is, laser-focused on improving quality of life, public safety, education, economic development, and healthcare.

Next week, Mayor Bowser will present her proposed Fiscal Year 2025 budget to the Council.

In a letter to the mayor, I requested funding for important initiatives, programs and investments.

Prior to submitting our funding requests, my staff and I analyzed the financial numbers we face as a government. Crafting a budget will be a challenge, and though it may not be possible to guarantee that every request is fulfilled, I am determined to ensure that every need is met.

In the coming weeks the Council will review the mayor's budget, hold hearings, and offer amendments. Your involvement is vital to the process. The Council has many options to weigh and difficult decisions to make. As always, I invite your input, concerns and feedback.

Be assured, I will fight to protect every dollar directed toward Ward 7 and budgeted for our ongoing efforts to build an equitable healthcare system, improve public safety, advance education, and strengthen the safety net on which many residents rely.

In service,

Vince
