Improving Safety in YOUR Neighborhood

May 23, 2024

Dear neighbors,

We are working day and night across multiple District agencies to improve public safety. Many crime statistics are lower this year, but we still have a long way to go.

Apprehending suspects as quickly as possible, in particular perpetrators of gun crimes, keeps us all safer.

You can help.

Enroll your doorbell and/or security cameras in MPD's CameraConnect program.

The CameraConnect program does not invade your privacy, nor does it directly access your camera. Rather, it is simply a database of cameras the owners of which police can contact in the event of a nearby crime. If an incident takes place near your home or business, MPD may reach out to view and possibly transfer the video from your camera.

It's that simple and it works. This week, within minutes of a reported gunfire incident, police were able to make a quick arrest based on video footage that tracked the suspect back to his home.

By working together we can improve public safety and restore calm to our neighborhoods. Please register your doorbell or security camera with CameraConnect; it only takes a few minutes.

If you don't already have a camera system, but want one, we can assist with funding. Residents, businesses, nonprofits, and religious institutions that purchase and install security camera systems can receive a rebate of up to $500.

In service,

Vince
