Young District Residents

October 20, 2023

Dear neighbors,

The Deanwood Radio Broadcast Youth Journalism Program was founded in 2015 to educate, engage, and teach young people about journalism and the role it plays affecting change in individual lives, communities, and our planet as a whole. It is inspiring young people to do big things and opening doors to opportunity.

Jordan Williams, a Deanwood Radio broadcaster, recently had the occasion to interview Magic Johnson. By the end of their conversation, Magic offered to fund Jordan's college education.

We're fortunate to have people like Jordan and Magic engaged in our communities. They demonstrate how dedication and caring can uplift oneself and one another.

If you know a young person who might be interested in the Deanwood Radio Broadcast Youth Journalism Program, please let me know. My office will connect you.

Lately, much of the news about young people in the District is troubling or tragic. We must remember that we are collectively raising an entire generation of dynamic, hard-working, thoughtful, and ambitious children and teens who are navigating a complicated world. Our job is to guide, uplift, empower and protect them.

There are numerous programs and opportunities in the District for young people. I've shared many here, our office assists residents in finding activities that meet their needs, and countless other agencies, faith-based organizations and non-profits are available to assist, too.

Please be involved with young people. If you need help with a child in your family, don't hesitate to reach out. If you know a child who is struggling, or who simply needs to be pointed in the right direction, we're here to help.

It takes a village, but remember, be the person in the village who takes action.

In service,

Vince
